Taharka Bros.
In summer 2020, I was brought on to help Taharka Bros. improve their newly-minted delivery service. While the ice cream was selling at record numbers, the boxes holding the pints—plain cardboard sealed with packing tape—weren’t making the best impression.
Social distancing had temporarily closed scoop shops and paused public events, so how could the box bring the Taharka Bros. vibe and experience home to customers?
The delivery box brings Taharka’s Vehicle for Change to customer doorsteps with 8 pints of ice cream packed inside.
Every inch of the box tells the Taharka story
Every detail counts
“Watch Your Step” gets a subtle edit to a positive double meaning. Spoons hide in the hubcaps. Elsewhere, another emblem is both a Taharka logo and a cone.
Education and growth
Authors who Taharka Bros. have collaborated with or admire populate the shelf at the back of the truck. Some covers were left blank for customers to fill in.
A spirit of change
Mission-driven, community-centered, collectively-owned, Taharka focuses not only on ice cream, but on improving the lives of the people they serve and employ.
Symbolic gestures
Illustrations of ice cream scoops and icons represent some core elements of Taharka’s mission and culture
By and for Baltimore
I crafted this statement and illustration to make plain what Taharka Bros. is all about: Baltimore at its best.

This riff on the Wu Tang classic was originally a tiny detail on the bumper. The guys insisted we print real bumper stickers.
To announce the new box, we surprised a loyal home delivery customer with the first new box. It’s been a hit ever since.
(Even the locking tabs are getting some love!)
